What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Sudan Emergency Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

EMERGENCY APPEAL TO HELP CHILDREN IN DARFUR
Kids for Kids is appealing for emergency funding to help families without any food, water and basic supplies in Darfur, Sudan. Kids for Kids is the only organization, working from the regional capital El Fasher helping children in remote villages. Emergency funding is essential to help provide for thousands of families in desperate need of food, water, shelter and medical care. Our team is not evacuating. We are staying in Darfur & our established network will get help to those in need.
Support for displaced families in West Darfur
Recent internal conflicts in West Darfur, Sudan led to thousands of families being redisplaced from the current Internal Displacement Centers to new IDP Centers. Thousands of new families also have been displaced from their homes. Therefore we are asking for your donation support to provide food, tarpaulin, clothes, shoes, blankets, and sleeping mats. Any amount of donation will make a huge difference.
Protect girls in Sudan
Armed conflict in Sudan is creating an unthinkable nightmare for girls and their families. As armed groups take control of the country, girls and their families are caught in between gunfire and airstrikes, terrified, and crying out for help. Your gift to Plan USA's Humanitarian Response Fund supports Plan's work in the areas of protection, support to the most vulnerable - girls - in conflict, education and safe spaces during emergencies, and resilience for the toughest circumstances.
Responding to Violence in Sudan
On April 15, conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted in Khartoum, the nation's capital. Since then, there have been clashes between the SAF and RSF in Kassala, North Darfur, North Kordofan and South Darfur states. To respond to the crisis, International Medical Corps is prioritizing the safety and security of staff and the continuity of essential services in Sudan, while scaling up activities and pre-positioning critically needed supplies.
SUDAN CONFLICT 2023: Mass Influx of Refugees
by CARE
Following a week of brutal fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has killed more than 400 people and injured 5,000, parties to the conflict have negotiated a 72-hour ceasefire. Since April 15, persistent gunfire and airstrikes had been terrorizing civilians and led to evacuations of diplomatic personnel from Sudan's capital, Khartoum. The fighting also severely impacted humanitarian groups, leading to the deaths of four U.N. staff.
Provide Sudanese People an Information Lifeline
The brutal fighting in Sudan has sparked a major humanitarian crisis. The UN estimates that more than 840,000 people have already been forced to leave their homes. In this incredibly difficult context, we at Internews are supporting people to access the information they need to make life-saving decisions for themselves and their families, by identifying dangerous mis- and disinformation, and by providing people with trustworthy and reliable alternatives.
Assist 100 Sudanese Families Migrated to Ethiopia
This project plans to provide emergency assistance of essential food and nonfood items critical to subsistence for 100 displaced and vulnerable households affected by conflict in Khartum, the Sudan. The assistance will be provided to critically needy 100 households in consultation and selection with local government, stakeholders, the affected community leaders and existing development partners.
Support Refuges and Returnees in South Sudan.
South Sudan is experiencing a large influx of refugees and returnees fleeing from Sudan due to political Instability seeking safety, stability and humanitarian assistance within its borders. Facilitating Action for Community Empowerment recognizes the urgent need to support these vulnerable populations. This concept note outlines our proposal to provide essential assistance in the areas of food security, non-food items (NFIs), and livelihood support.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
