Extreme violence and persecution against the Rohingya people, an ethnic and religious minority, has caused an urgent humanitarian crisis. Leaving nearly all their possessions behind, the majority of the Rohingya people fled across the Myanmar border into Bangladesh. This fund will provide emergency assistance and ongoing support to Rohingya refugees in need.
In 2017, extreme violence against the Rohingya population in Myanmar caused more than 730,000 people to flee their homes and cross borders. There have been reports of helicopters firing on civilians, executions of women and children, and the burning of entire villages. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights called the situation a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing." The majority of Rohingya are without citizenship and long-term solutions to displacement have yet to be found.
This fund will support life-saving assistance and relief efforts for Rohingya people displaced by violence and conflict, as well as those affected by disasters such as cyclones, including in and around the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh and neighboring settlements. Your support will help survivors get necessary immediate relief supplies like food and hygiene kits, as well as provide longer-term support through activities including the construction of health facilities.
