There is a big challenge in Kenya when it comes to children with disabilities from low-income areas getting access to services such as therapy and food programs that can cater to their nutritional needs. This project serves children with autism in low-income urban areas and rural areas by ensuring they get access to occupational therapy and food packages that help sustain them. By giving to this project you become a certified ambassador for children with autism and their needs.
Autism in Kenya is among the fastest growing developmental disorders. Many children with autism are neglected and abandoned by parents due to the stigma and the cost of bringing up such a child.Although the government has good policies on disability there is a gap when it comes to autism and that is therapy and an exit program in the schools that offer space to autism learners. This project will affect more than 500 children within the slums of Nairobi and its environs.
This project provides free therapy for children with autism thrice per week and offers them food, medication where necessary and respite care. For the parents and caregiver of the children with autism they get free counselling and support and education on how to offer home based therapy and manage the autism in their children as they watch them grow into adults.
The project gets to impact 1000 parents and 500 children, the parents get to learn about autism as their children get free expert therapy which improves their health. As a result of the empowerment that we give to the parents they get economic Independence to enable them take care of their children with autism. The children also get to grow into adulthood and be able to engage in the normal day to day activities and be productive in society despite having autism.
