Our assessment team in Myanmar's Rakhine State, Sittwe township, and around are reporting more than 400 fatalities and countless left injured or without shelter, food, and water. We will arrange housing and food as well as non-food items for those affected by the cyclone. Due to the complicated situation under the military regime, these items are not available in the area but have to be transported from afar. This will help many families to start a new life with dignity and less sorrow.
The worst affected is western Rakhine, which includes several Rohingya Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps, which have been significantly damaged. The situation is described as worse than any cyclone within the last ten years. This project will help to support normal daily life for the poorest of the poor after cyclone MOCHA left them without shelter, food, and other necessities for daily life.
By providing shelter, food, and non-food items the affected families will be able to start a new life and help especially children to not be hungry during the complicated first period of time in the aftermath of the disaster.
This project will help minimize the effects of Cyclone Mocha in the worst affected area in and around Sittwe, Rakhine State, Myanmar. The situation before cyclone Mocha made landfall was already very challenging - especially for the Rohingya population which remains one of the most vulnerable and suffering in the country.
